About the Member Instructor:

Marianne Cyr

Marianne grew up in the small coastal town of Salisbury, Massachusetts, where her love for horses began at an early age. Living next to a horse farm as a child, she spent every possible moment with the horses, developing a deep connection that would shape her future. At just 13 years old, she became the proud owner of her first horse, Queen Bonnie, a Standardbred Trotter.

In her early twenties, Marianne dedicated five years to working with youth and families at The Pettengill House, a local social service agency. Her firsthand experience with horses had already shown her their incredible ability to support personal growth and healing, and she soon realized that her true calling was to combine her passion for horses with helping people.

After a 20-year hiatus from horse ownership Marianne and her husband, Joe, felt a pull back to their roots. In 2006, they purchased a run-down property in Salisbury, transforming it into what is now the Lazy J Ranch. Countless hours of hard work went into building barns, fencing paddocks, and creating a welcoming space for horses and other animals. In 2008, they welcomed Stretch, the first member of the Lazy J Ranch herd and a key teacher in their Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) programs.

Marianne’s commitment to equine-assisted programs deepened over the years. She is a Licensed Riding Instructor, a Certified Facilitator of Horse Powered Reading, and a Certified Instructor of Equine First Aid. At Lazy J Ranch, the home of Horses Healing Hearts, Marianne is dedicated to creating a safe, compassionate environment where individuals can build confidence, develop life skills, and move forward in their personal and professional journeys.

Primary PAL Around Pony School Instructor:

Natalie Bishop

Natalie will be the primary instructor for PAL Around Pony School at Lazy J Ranch. Her love for horses started young when she was 8 yrs old and she started riding lessons. She rode until she was in college, mostly riding Morgans and Saddlebreds saddleseat and showing here and there along the way. She took care of an Arabian when she was in high school, getting to ride her almost everyday and taking her to a few shows. She was a great horse.

She just started recently riding again after 12 years off and started working at The Lazy J Ranch, which has opened many opportunities. She is working towards her Instructors License doing her apprentice hours. She passed her Massachusetts Riding Instructor Exam in November of 2024. She is also a Horse Powered Reading facilitator and runs classes for that on Saturdays.  It’s a great way to get students reading and doing math all while being in the presence of horses playing endless amounts of games, along with props like balls, noodles, and cones.

Natalie loves being around young kids and horses so PAL Around Pony school is a great program to get young children comfortable being around horses and ponies! Natalie says she's so glad she gets to be a part of that bond being created between the child and the horse. In her free time, she likes to ride horses, go to the beach and hang out with her family, her husband, 2 boys 14 and 7 and their 2 dogs.
